A Married Couple Becomes Uneasy About Their Unhealthy Drinking And Asks Themselves If They Manifest Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency
Lenny and Angie have been married for seven years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have a family and so they consciously developed a super exciting social life.
The basic difficulty, it needs to be underscored, is that practically everything they do for excitement includes drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and happy hours they spend time at are associated with drinking.
If they were casual drinkers this wouldn't be such a difficult situation. Because they drink rather heavily, nonetheless, they are starting to notice some definite alcohol-related issues in their lives.
As an illustration, just two days ago Lenny was placed in custody for a third DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two performance assessments at his place of employment have been less than praiseworthy and he has begun to fail to recall what he says or does the times that he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to agonize over his drinking difficulties.
In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling unhappy with life in general and to deal with these feelings, she has been drinking more than any time in the past year. What is more, Angie has been experiencing more than a few painful migraines and experiencing agonizing hangovers due to her drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling appreciably less energetic in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been getting some unkind criticism from her family members, coworkers, friends, and relatives about her hazardous and careless drinking.
One Friday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny stumbled upon a documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV documentary was a real source of discovery to Angie and Lenny because numerous alcohol facts that were emphasized looked as if they were directly associated with more than a few of the drinking issues Angie and Lenny had been experiencing.
With thoughts of the television documentary still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been exhibiting could mean that they are alcohol dependent or maybe becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they schedule an appointment with one of the physicians at the nearby alcohol treatment center to find out more about the severity of their drinking circumstances.
Ironically, although their drinking circumstances hadn't yet changed, it was evident that Lenny and Angie were at least addressing their drinking problems, they were enthusiastic about finding out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in learning how they could notably cut back on or do away with the drinking-related problems that had started to escalate.
When Angie and Lenny went to bed that night, they came to a decision that the next day, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse rehab center located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to prevail over the drinking problems that had become apparent in their lives, they truly had the most peaceful night's sleep they could think of in the last three weeks.
